David Spencer
Candidate for Ward 3
County of Brant
I’m running for Ward 3 Councillor because I believe Paris and the County of Brant are at an important point in their growth.
As a downtown Paris resident and a member of the Board of Directors of the Paris Museum and Historical Society, I care deeply about our community: its history, its character, and its future.
I believe in thoughtful, responsible growth that respects what makes Paris special. Growth that is supported by the infrastructure we need. Growth that includes affordable places to live, reliable public transit, and communities where people feel connected and invested.
Paris is changing. I’m running because I want to help make sure we get that change right.
Priorities for Our Community
The County of Brant is growing, and the decisions we make today will shape our community for years to come. These are five areas where I believe thoughtful planning, responsible leadership and a strong community voice can make a difference.
-
Paris is renowned as “The Prettiest Town in Ontario,” and as our community grows, we need to protect the history, character and charm that make it such a special place to live and visit.
Development should be thoughtful and supported by the infrastructure our community needs. In downtown Paris, that includes additional parking, development that respects our historic character, and better access to both the downtown and the river.
-
Affordable housing is one of the concerns I hear most often from residents. As new housing is developed in Paris North and along the Rest Acres corridor, affordable options need to be part of the plan.
Our community should be a place where people at different stages of life and income levels have the opportunity to find a home they can afford.
-
Public transit is essential to connecting County of Brant residents with jobs, services and neighbouring communities.
A reliable transit connection from the Brantford bus terminal through Paris would give residents better access to growing employment opportunities throughout the county and provide a practical transportation option for those who need it.
-
Preserving the history of Paris and protecting our natural spaces are both deeply important to me.
As a fisherman and hunter, I value the natural environment and the green spaces that surround our community. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Paris Museum and Historical Society, I also understand the importance of protecting and celebrating our local history.
As Paris grows, we need to preserve both our natural heritage and the history and character that have made Paris “The Prettiest Town in Ontario.”
-
I oppose the development of data centres anywhere in the County of Brant.
These facilities can place significant demands on water, electricity and other infrastructure. I do not believe those demands are in the best interests of our communities or our long-term growth.
Our water is not for sale.
